BURNS, Ore. and EUGENE, Ore. – Harney County Federal Credit Union and O.U.R. Federal Credit Union will receive nearly $700,000 in grants under the Community Development Financial Institutions Fund offered by the U.S. Department of the Treasury. Awarded to non-governmental organizations whose primary mission is to provide loans or investments in underserved communities or to underserved people, grants issued totaled 53 nationwide. Only five community development credit unions were selected for a grant. Serving a farming/ranching community, Harney County FCU plans to use its $420,000 grant for technology upgrades and infrastructure improvements. O.U.R FCU received $270,000 for their work serving the Hispanic and low-income population in Eugene. "Let's face it, this saved us," said O.U.R. FCU President/CEO Loretta Moesta. "Senator Ron Wyden and Congressman Peter DeFazio wrote letters of support for us and we are eternally grateful for that. There were 149 applications for $213 million in grants. For both of Harney and O.U.R. to get Core funding is really exciting, and I'm thrilled it's not just us who received the funding."
