DUBLIN, Ohio – Gene Artemenko, long time credit union activist and industry leader, died October 15 after an extended illness. A staunch supporter of private share insurance, Artemenko recently completed his 20th year on the board of directors of American Share Insurance and was serving as the company's chairman. He joined ASI (then the National Deposit Guaranty Corporation) in September 1981. He had also served as past chairman of the Governor's Credit Union Advisory Board for the state of Illinois and was on the Board of Trustees of the Trust for Credit Unions. Artemenko retired as president from United Airlines Employees CU in 1991 following a 40-year career with the credit union. At the time of his retirement, UAECU was the largest state-chartered CU in the U.S. Artemenko's family is planning a private service within the next few days. A public memorial service will be scheduled for later in November.
