MIRAMAR, Fla. – There's nothing like a Doppler Radar perched on a rooftop to give a credit union some serious media exposure. South Florida residents who want to know about the weather can now look to Eastern Financial Federal Credit Union. High on the rooftop of Eastern Financial FCU headquarters sits the 350,000-watt First Alert Doppler Radar- thanks to a partnership with local television station NBC6-WTVJ. Capable of "street level" accuracy, the Doppler Radar provides updates once per minute and in a severe weather event new images can be programmed six times per minute or once every 10 seconds. It may sound overkill for those outside the area, but in South Florida the weather is big news everyday, and Doppler Radar is a weapon news outlets like to tout. "Our headquarters turned out to be the optimum choice location and height for the Doppler Radar," said EFFCU Marketing Services Vice President/Director Gary Lanier. As part of the permanent partnership, the over $1.1 billion credit union will benefit from a media blitz that may be better than any marketing promotion. Not only was EFFCU President/CEO Kent T. Herbert interviewed live for WTVJ's noon newscast but subsequent interviews were also taped for use in a NBC6 Hurricane Special. The Eastern Financial name and image is also prominently displayed in the station's Hurricane Guide, which is distributed to hundreds of thousands of South Florida residents. Additionally, the credit union will be mentioned during each of the daily weather forecasts and future severe weather events. EEFCU serves more than 160,000 members. [email protected]
