Looking back five years ago finds the credit union movement being called to action. In his first meeting with the press since taking over as CUNA CEO Dan Mica said, "We're a small entity but there is a fervor about what we do. There is an intensity and a belief that you seldom find. You see it in other social causes but credit unions are also a business. Credit unions put people before profits, with the understanding there must be earnings for the credit union to exist." To that end CUNA distributed to all state credit union leagues a video entitled Fight Back! A Call to Action. Distributed in the wake of the AT&T Family Federal court decision and built around the theme that credit unions are vastly outgunned in the financial services market the video emphasizes that CUs must stand together if they want to succeed. The video opens by showing archival footage of out manned British troops in World War I who defeated a superior Germany army in one battle and informs viewers of previous threats to the credit union movement during the Truman administration. The video closes with remarks by Mica.
