WASHINGTON – CUNA is in the process of establishing a nine-member Small Business Task Force charged with strengthening credit unions' relationships with their SEGs by putting together "a package of services which will benefit small business," said CUNA Chairman David Maus. The package would include loans, employee benefit services, automation products and various turnkey operations. Maus said the package would be put together and offered by "our partners" who he identified as being, among others, CUNA, CUNA Mutual and the American Association of Credit Union Leagues (AACUL). Members of the task force are being chosen based on their "extensive experience dealing with SEGs," Maus told Credit Union Times. Gene Poitras, president/CEO, Credit Union Association of Oregon will chair the group. The task force's creations reflects "the flurry of activity around the country" on business loans as state leagues "desire to help their members" in this area. It is "an aftermath of the restrictions on business lending" is a fallout of H.R. 1151, said Maus.
