WASHINGTON – "Don't let the Realtors limit consumer choice! Tell your members of Congress you want more competition in real estate," screams a pop up ad on the American Bankers Association Web site (www.aba.com). The ABA and others have been working recently to extend bankers powers into the real estate arena and are calling this a "consumer choice" issue on their Web site Sound familiar to you folks out in credit union land? Consumer choice of course was the popular slogan, and reasoning, for credit unions' fight to get H.R. 1151 passed. The bankers are now picking up that theme in the real estate issue.
