For its third small business cash mob, Mountain Credit Union wasable to help support a local arts and crafts store.

On Oct. 18, the $157 million credit union in Waynesville, N.C.,held a cash mob at Asheville, NC Home ~ Crafts.

“We really appreciate the extra word of mouth and social mediaadvertising that the credit union was able to generate for us,”said Judy Quinn, one of the store's owners. “We hope that thisevent will spark new interest in the type of products that weoffer.”

Asheville, NC Home ~ Crafts began as a source for local artisansto sell their work and also offers craft supplies, according toMountain CU.

Quinn and Marie Hendrix opened the store with their own productsand those of 25 other artisans and immediately sold out, the creditunion said. Eleven years later, they have continued to expand andnow sell for more than 100 artisans from Western NorthCarolina.

“Judy and Marie have supported the credit union for many years,”said Lisa Moore, branch manager at Mountain CU's Asheville branch.“Their store is a great example of what makes Asheville unique andtheir support of the artisans in our local community shows thatthey have a lot of the same 'community first' values that ourcredit union has.”

Mountain CU said it plans to keep choosing other businesses forits “Featured Business of the Month” on its Facebook page andthrough cash mobs to continue their efforts to support the smallbusiness communities in the areas that they serve.

Earlier this year, the credit union held a cash mob at a local ice cream and coffer shop.

Small business cash mobs continue to grow in popularity withinthe credit union industry. Several states, including Louisiana,Michigan and Ohio, recently held the events to help support localfirms.
