The 200,000 member-cooperative in Madison, Wis., said it will golive Dec. 15, just in time for holiday shopping.

The decision to offer Apple Pay was an easy one, according to UWCU.

“More than 50% of our mobile log-ins originate from iPhones,”Lisa Girdharry, the credit union's chief marketing officer, said.“While we know that Apple Pay is currently only available foriPhone 6 models, more members will have access to the service whenthey upgrade their mobile devices or purchase an Apple Watch.”

Girdharry said offering Apple Pay is part of a larger initiativeto improve members' overall banking experience.

She also noted that Apple Pay will actually be available to thecredit union in early December.

“We have the ability to go live in early December,” Girdharrysaid. “However, it's our practice to do internal testing and anemployee and friends and family pilot to ensure a positive, seamless member rollout experience.”

Girdharry said despite debit card issues reported by some institutions, both debit andcredit card programs will be available at the same time.

UW CU is one of just a handful of credit unions expected to golive with Apple Pay before the end of the year.
