The 2014 NASCUS Annual Meeting held in Nashville this weekwas packed with activity.

On Wednesday, NASCUS members and other credit union supporterscelebrated “Mary Martha Fortney Day.”

|

Earlier this week, Greg Gonzales, commissioner of the TennesseeDepartment of Financial Institutions, announced that Tennessee Gov.Bill Haslam declared Sept. 10 to be “Mary Martha Fortney Day.”

“Thank you for all that you've done,” Gonzales said. “Today isyour day.”

|

The annual meeting will be the last for Fortney aspresident/CEO, who announced in February that she will retire thisyear.

|

LucyIto, executive vice president and chief operations officer ofthe California and Nevada Credit Union Leagues, has been announcedas Fortney's successor.

|

Fortney has been with NASCUS for 22 years, serving as theorganization's president and CEO for the past 11.

|

Fortney thanked Gonzales for presenting her with thedeclaration.

|

“I'm speechless,” she said. “I have a lot of favorite cities,but I think Nashville is going to be my most favorite. That's quitean honor.”

Fortney said the entire NASCUS organization and its supportersdeserved recognition.

|

“It's not about me; it's about you all,” she said. “You havemade it possible for me to be here and to be recognized likethis.”

Also at this week's conference, three state regulators who hadinitially been appointed to terms on the board to fill vacant seatswere elected to serve full three-year terms.

The new NASCUS board members are Jay Bienvenu (Mass.), RoseConner (N.C.) and Kim Santos (Wis.), whose terms end in 2017.

Bienvenu is the deputy commissioner of Financial InstitutionSupervision with the Massachusetts Division of Banks, Conner servesas administrator of the North Carolina Credit Union Division andSantos is director of the Wisconsin Department of FinancialInstitutions Office of Credit Unions Division, according toNASCUS.

The NASCUS board also elected officers and announced theseresults:

Stephen S. Pleger, senior deputy commissioner for the GeorgiaDepartment of Banking and Finance, was named chair of the board.The previous chairman was John Kolhoff, director of the Michigan Office of CreditUnions.

Mary Ellen O'Neill, director of the Financial InstitutionDivision of the Connecticut Department of Banking, was tapped aschairman-elect.

|

Bienvenu, one of the newly-elected board members, was namedecretary/treasurer.

|

The remaining NASCUS Board members include: John Fields, deputychief examiner for the Louisiana Office of Financial Institutions;Linda K. Jekel, director of the Washington Department of FinancialInstitutions Division of Credit Unions and Werner Paul, deputycommissioner for the Virginia Bureau of Financial Institutions, theassociation said.
