As more cash mobs continue to pop up to support local small businesses, even more credit unions are getting in on the action.
The $196 million Yolo Federal Credit Union in Woodland, Calif., is the latest to provide its patronage by hosting a cash mob on Nov. 16 along with the Davis Chamber of Commerce and the Davis Downtown Business Association.
The cash mob will be held at the G Street Shopping Center in Davis, Calif., which is home to the Food Co-op, Monticello restaurant and other small businesses.
“The timing is perfect” said Christina Blackman, marketing manager at Yolo. “Forgo cooking for one night and grab a bite out at Monticello’s, then head over to Ken’s and get your bike ready for winter weather or pick up that bike light you’ll need now that it’s getting dark earlier, and finally finish at the Co-op to grab those items you’ll need for Thanksgiving.”
Nina Gatewood, DDBA marketing coordinator, said Yolo, the chamber of commerce and DDBA have plans to host cash mobs throughout 2013.
“Each of our organizations is committed to supporting local business and our goal is to bring the community together to making shopping local a priority,” Gatewood said.
Cash mobs, which are campaigns to support local businesses by buying their products and services, continue to grow in popularity. Throughout the country, credit unions and CUSOs have participated in a number of cash mobs.
