The list of New Jersey credit unions re-opening Thursday afterthe devastation of Hurricane Sandy is getting longer thanks topower being restored in some areas, auxiliary generators and thework of credit union employees.

However, some credit unions are still closed because of poweroutages that continue to plague the Garden State.

The New Jersey Credit Union League Thursday provided new updates ithas received from some of its member credit unions:

  • 1st Bergen FCU – Equipment and facility OK, but no power.Opening limited hours Thursday and Friday, if necessary, at one ofits other sponsor sites.
  • ADP FCU – Roseland office open and operational.
  • Affinity FCU – Following ranches will be open from 9 a.m. to 3p.m.: Basking Ridge, Piscataway, Cedar Knolls, Flemington,Hillsborough, Edison (all other branches remain closed. Onlinebanking is unavailable, but the credit union is working torestore it as quickly as possible.
  • Atlantic FCU – Kenilworth office is without power; will openonce power is restored.
  • Bay Atlantic FCU – Operational and all systems are functioningproperly. Used disaster recovery/business continuity plans toservice members on Monday.
  • Bridgeton Onized FCU – Open but no email. Used disasterrecovery/business continuity plans to service members onMonday.
  • Central Jersey FCU – Woodbridge office open and fullyoperational; South Plainfield office closed until power isrestored.
  • Credit Union of New Jersey – Operational at its main office andbranch in Ewing as well at its Lafayette Branch and WillingboroBranch.
  • Essex County Teachers FCU – Credit union has power, phone, andDP communications; reported that many shared branching CUs aren'tavailable on the network, communicated these issues to NCUA.
  • Financial Resources FCU – Experienced power andtelecommunications outages. All branches in N.J. remain closed as aresult of the outages, but otherwise suffered little to no damage.All locations outside of N.J. are operational and processingnormally otherwise. The CU's Web site, mobile, mobile apps,text messaging andother electronic services are up and running.
  • First Financial FCU – Toms River Branch opened at 9 a.m. today.All other offices and branches will remain closed until furthernotice.
  • Hamilton Horizons FCU – Closed due to power outage. All backoffice transactions, including ACH, checking and ATM are stillbeing done.
  • Garden Savings FCU – Parsippany branch re-opened; Newark branchwithout power and is closed.
  • Jersey Central – Cranford office open.
  • Jersey Shore FCU – All offices are fully operational.
  • McGraw-Hill FCU – 2 Penn Plaza, 1221 Ave. of the Americas, andEast Windsor branches are now open and operating under normalbusiness hours. Verizon is still down at East Windsor branch socredit union can't get member info out. 55 Water St. branch isstill closed due to the forced evacuation of the building.
  • MidState FCU – Credit union has remained closed due to theftsand no power in Carteret; posting remotely all ACH drafts, etc.Will attempt to hire off duty police to sit with the staff so thatit can open for Friday.
  • North Jersey FCU – All branches open.
  • Parlin DuPont FCU – Now have power but nophone/Internet; making due with file transfers and PBF.
  • Picatinny FCU – Main branch in Rockaway and Denville branch arefully operational. The arsenal had a delayed opening of noonyesterday and the Mt. Olive branch is closed due to power outage.The credit union has allowed NJCUL Business Consultant Angel Santosto work at the Rockaway office for the time being.
  • Rancocas FCU – Open and operational.
  • Renaissance CDCU – Credit union has been shut down withoutpower, Internet access, phones, etc. since Monday. Hopefullythe power will be back on in the area of the credit union by theend of the day so it can begin processing ACH, share drafts andATMs.
  • Rutgers FCU – Busch is open, College Avenue is running on alimited schedule, Newark is closed. All services available.
  • United Teletech FCU – Tinton Falls branch is currently open forbusiness; all other locations are closed pending the restoration ofpower to those locations.
  • West Orange Municipal FCU – Has a generator and should be ableto continue operations with little interruption going forward.
  • XCEL FCU – Bloomfield, N.J. office OK, but most branch staffdepends on PATH and NY subways for transportation. Fed Plaza branchin Manhattan, and Journal Square branch in Jersey City will remainclosed until further notice. Branch at 3680 Kennedy Blvd. in JerseyCity is open. All ACH and share drafts were posted remotely eachday.

“Many (CUs )are still conducting ACH and onlinetransactions even if their offices and branches are closed, and areencouraging their members to use online and mobile banking in themeantime,” NJCUL President/CEO Paul Gentile said in a statementThursday.

Assistance is available to those credit unions that need it,said the NJCUL.

Residents and business owners in eight New Jersey counties thatwere severely affected by Superstorm Sandy can start applying forfederal assistance on Thursday.

The money was made available as part of a disaster declarationsigned Tuesday by President Barack Obama. It provides federal fundsfor those affected by the storm in Atlantic, Cape May, Essex,Hudson, Middlesex, Monmouth, Ocean and Union counties.

Assistance can also include grants for temporary housing andhome repairs or low-cost loans to cover uninsured property losses.Funding also is available to government agencies and certainprivate nonprofit organizations within the declaration zone.

Residents and business owners who sustained losses within thedeclaration zone can apply for assistance online at www.disasterassistance.gov or by calling1-800-621-FEMA (3362) or 1-800-462-7585 (TTY) for the hearing and speechimpaired.
