Redstone to Market In-House Innovations

The $3.5 billion Redstone Federal Credit Union in Huntsville, Ala., is planning to take in-house technology developments to the greater marketplace.

The new Redstone Consulting Group LLC will be offering credit unions and banks solutions it already has been marketing through the DNA Appstore operated by its core processor, Open Solutions Inc.

“When we saw how much the software applications we developed here at Redstone were improving efficiencies and member service, we wanted to share them with other financial institutions, as well,” said Harry Gunsallus, president of the new RCG and senior vice president of technology and operations support at the 347,000-member northern Alabama institution.

Liz Ponder, Redstone’s vice president of retail, pointed to the success of an electronic lobby management app that calculates member wait times and service needs and transmits that information to member service representatives when members sign in as they enter a branch.

“Our service level has improved, staff morale has increased, and we’re offering better member service. We will never go back to a paper system,” Ponder said.

Another in-house developed innovation is an app for mobile remote deposit capture registration, qualification and posting.

“Creating a consulting group seemed like the logical next step,” Gunsallus said.
