San Diego County Credit Union has served as the title sponsor of the San Diego County Credit Union Poinsettia Bowl since the game’s inception in 2005, and this year’s matchup will feature the Horned Frogs from Texas Christian University of Fort Worth, Texas, playing the Bulldogs from Louisiana Tech University of Ruston, La.
The game, the nation’s only bowl game featuring a credit union as a title sponsor, will be played at 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 21 at Qualcomm Stadium in San Diego. The game can be seen nationally on ESPN and heard on ESPN Radio.
“We are looking forward to the game with great anticipation because it pits two conference champions against one another,” said Teresa Halleck, president & CEO of the $5.3 billion SDCCU, San Diego’s largest locally owned financial institution. “Both teams had great seasons with very impressive wins.”
The 2011 SDCCU Poinsettia Bowl will be the first meeting between the two teams. It will mark the Horned Frogs’ third appearance in the bowl.
The San Diego County Credit Union Poinsettia Bowl said it’s the first bowl game to establish a charity beneficiary. For every admission ticket sold, $1 will go directly to the San Diego Chapter of the Make-A-Wish Foundation, allowing the charity to grant wishes to children with life-threatening medical conditions.
The partnership between SDCCU, Make-A-Wish and the Poinsettia Bowl has been in effect since the game began, with more than 40 wishes granted to children in San Diego from the contributions.
