Bank Transfer Day: Georgia CU’s Branch New Hours Brings in New Accounts

A branch opened in April by Georgia’s Own Credit Union marked its Saturday hours launch today with a flow of steady traffic.

That’s according to Tom Fontaine, district assistant vice president and branch manager at the $1.7 billion credit union based in Atlanta.

“We opened a new branch in Buford in April and just started our Saturday hours there today. It’s going really good. The traffic is steady. We’re opening a lot of new accounts,” Fontaine said.

Georgia’s Own CU has 23 branches across the state. Fontaine said a branch in Gainesville is also reporting an increase in new accounts.

“We’re already hearing reports from other branches of more accounts opening, a lot of them are new,” Fontaine said.

Rather than use the Bank Transfer Day moniker, the credit union has come up with its own message – “Make Your Move Day.”

In addition to providing switch kits, Georgia’s Own CU has increased branch staff today and extended its hours to 4 p.m. at select branches. They would normally close at 1 p.m. on Saturdays.
