More credit unions say they have been finding ways to make Bank Transfer Day work for them.
Three of Long Island’s largest credit unions, the $4.3 billion Bethpage Federal Credit Union, the $4.1 billion Teachers Federal Credit Union and the $1.7 billion NEFCU have joined forces to help promote Bank Transfer Day on Nov. 5.
The three have launched the BetterBankingforLongIsland.com to show locals how good banking can be by proving that there is a better way to bank. The site encourages consumers to “Take a stand: Join a community credit union today” or on Bank Transfer Day.
Meanwhile, in Winston-Salem, N.C., Members Credit Union unveiled its “Break Up with Your Bank” campaign, which encourages bank customers to build a relationship with their credit union.
Consumers can compare why it’s better to be a member rather than a bank customer. In addition, Members CU’s corporate headquarters will be open on Bank Transfer Day, Saturday, Nov. 5 from 8 a.m. to noon and employees will be onsite to sign up new members, answer questions and open accounts.
Bank Transfer Day was started by Kristen Christian, a Los Angeles art gallery owner unhappy with her bank. So far some 60,000 people have RSVP’d to attend Bank Transfer Day on Facebook alone.
