Service CU Black Friday Promo Generates 70 Times Gift Card Sales

Black Friday proved to be a boon for Service Credit Union as it launched its own One-Day Sale.

The Portsmouth, N.H.-based credit union's twist on the most popular shopping day of the year offered members everything from a 10% APY three-month certificate and 1% off auto and personal loans, to a free $25 Service CU gift card for those who opened a new Visa credit card account.

The $1.3 billion credit union also offered reusable oversized shopping bags with coupons and all its Wal-Mart in-store branches provided free water to shoppers along with holding hourly gift card drawings.

According to credit union executives, compared to an average day the seven-hour sale generated over 70 times more gift cards sales and there was a 225% jump in loans.
