Political-Fund-raising
America's Credit Unions and its political action committee will spend $8 million during the 2026 midterm election cycle to support candidates aligned with credit union priorities, according to a post on the organization's website Wednesday.
The funding will go toward candidate contributions, independent expenditures and member communications aimed at electing what the group calls a "credit-union-friendly" Congress. Efforts are already underway in states including California and Alabama.
"America's Credit Unions is bipartisan and laser-focused on electing credit union champions," said President/CEO Scott Simpson, noting that 146 million Americans rely on credit unions.
Initial spending includes roughly $1 million across three races: Rep. Young Kim (R-Calif.), Rep. Brad Sherman (D-Calif.) and Alabama congressional candidate Rhett Marques. Campaign tactics include direct mail and digital outreach targeting credit union members.
The PAC, which ranks among the largest association PACs nationally, maintains a nearly even split between Democratic and Republican support.
Advocacy efforts are focused on protecting the industry's federal tax exemption, defending interchange income and addressing rising fraud risks.
