As of Tuesday afternoon, a judge ruled that Todd Harper and Tanya Otsuka were illegally removed from their NCUA Board positions by President Donald Trump. In this legal fight, round one went to Harper and Otsuka.
We are now heading into round two, as the Department of Justice has already filed a motion stating they will be appealing this ruling.
Joining us on this “Breaking Pod” episode of Shared Accounts With CU Times is Elizabeth Eurgubian, partner at Atlas Advocacy in Washington, D.C. and former Director of External Affairs and Communications Policy Advisor for the NCUA.
Eurgubian helps us sift through the legal meaning and specifics of Tuesday’s ruling and what it potentially signals about NCUA’s future.
Topics covered include: DOJ’s arguments of presidential powers; Judge’s clear interpretation of the statutes; NCUA’s independence; and the likelihood of the Supreme Court ruling in this case.
Listen in as we talk about all of those things and we check in with Sonny and Bear, Eurgubian’s dogs.
