South Carolina credit unions, led by the $128 million Carolina Trust Federal Credit Union, showed the way this week in coming to the aid of displaced families from wildfires that destroyed 70 homes and damaged 80 more a week ago in North Myrtle Beach.

"Carolina Trust is proud to be among the businesses and local residents who are showing their support for the families," said Jerry Miller, president/CEO of Carolina Trust which helped organize an all-day fund raiser on Tuesday at a Myrtle Beach mall bringing in $120,000.

Donations from Carolina Trust and those from the South Carolina Credit Union League brought in $2,500. That included contributions solicited from employees and members at Carolina Trust's five branches over a two day period.

"We're grateful to live, work and serve in communities that respond so quickly with help during times of disaster," said Miller. With local media on hand, Carolina Trust made its CU check presentation at ceremonies held at the local American Red Cross chapter.
