The NCUA announced last month that it banned six formeremployees from participating in the affairs of anyfederally-insured financial institution for stealing money andother crimes.

Fuataina Afutiti, the former president/CEO of Veterans Health Administration Credit Union, was sentenced inDecember to two and half years to up to 20 years in state prisonfor stealing nearly $2 million from the Detroit-based credit union,which had $2 million in assets. With the stolen funds from 2012 to2016, she leased or bought several cars, including a 2013 MercedesBenz and a motorhome. Afutiti also used the credit union's money topay for vacations.

Phillip Webb, a former manager of networkservices for St. Paul Postal Employees Credit Union, now the $650million Ideal Credit Union in Woodbury, Minn., pleaded guilty to mailfraud in 2010. He was sentenced to three months in prison andordered to pay $169,932 in restitution in 2011. After illegallyobtaining computer components from a vendor, Webb sold thereplacement parts and delivered them through a package deliverycompany.

Mayty Lee, a former employee of the $1.9billion Affinity Plus Federal Credit Union in St. Paul, Minn., pleadedguilty to the charge of theft. Lee, who stole $99,660, wassentenced to one day in jail and 10 years' probation, and wasordered to pay full restitution.

Tamela Suzanne Bordelon, a former employee of the $110 millionEagle Louisiana Federal Credit Union in Baton Rouge, La., pleadedguilty to stealing $34,865. She was sentenced to a 10-yearsuspended jail term and five years' supervised probation, and wasordered to pay full restitution.

Kristen E. Amos, a former employee of the $8.5 million Local 50Plumbers & Steamfitters Federal Credit Union in Northwood, Ohiopleaded no contest to petty theft charge. Amos received one year ofprobation and was ordered to pay a fine of $250 and restitution of$6,000.

Mark A. Jesse, a former employee of the $16.5 million MenashaEmployees Credit Union in Menasha, Wis., pleaded no contest to atheft charge. Jesse was sentenced to 90 days in jail and threeyears' probation. The amount of the theft was not specified by theNCUA.
