It's scholarship season once again, and credit unions across thenation recently announced scholarship awards that will help manyyoung adults reach their goal of earning their college degrees.

EAST

|

The $787 million Educational Systems Federal CreditUnion in Greenbelt, Md. awarded 15 scholarships tograduating high school seniors who completed the Academy of Financecurriculum. Erica Sandidge, Jeanine Arndt, AlexandraHarrington, Mary Cook, Nadia Williams, Blair Stout, Ryan Gonzales,Samuel Nguyen, Austin Wickham, Darren Zhang, Gabrielle Headly,Raelyn Arie Mcllwain, Jamon Fields, Emmanuel William Barrow andRiniya Countiss each received $500 scholarships.

The $467 million Quincy Credit Union in Quincy,Mass. presented $1,000 Scholarship Lottery Awards to studentmembers Timothy Nazzaro, Catherine Manning, SofiaLee and Jennifer Dunn.

The $242 million Dutch Point Credit Union inWethersfield, Conn., announced that Lindsay Bluestein,Michael Boni, Harley Ann Bouchard, Natalie Charette andEmily Gunter were named the 2015 Dorothy J.Sullivan Scholarship program winners and each received $1,000.Sullivan was the former president/CEO of the credit union and itsfirst employee.

The $5.1 billon Teachers Federal Credit Unionin Happauge, N.Y. presented six $1,000 scholarships toZachary Harned, Gabriella Ledda, Tiffany Leigh, HannahParbst, William Reid and Brock Whitman.

The $157 million Members First Credit Union inManchester, N.H. awarded scholarships to six students.Cameron Richard Verrier received the $2,500Michael L. Briggs Scholarship, which is presented annually to astudent who is pursuing a college education in law enforcement orcriminal justice. Steven Lemay received the $1,000Wilbur L. Jenkins Scholarship, Valerie Bolesreceived the $1,000 John S. Walsh Scholarship, and three $1,000Members First Memorial Scholarships were given to TaylorJeanne Lachance, Sienna Mayer and Abigail RoseSnarski.

The $130 million Michigan Community CreditUnion in Jackson announced its 2015 college scholarshipswere awarded to Hadleigh Buchler, Maggie Belcher, JamesDarby, Jennifer Holubowicz and ZacharySchossau. Each student received a $1,000 scholarship.

The $419 million Educational Community CreditUnion in Kalamazoo, Mich. announced 21 students received$24,000 in scholarships. Eighteen $1,000 scholarships were given toMaya Ablao, Noah Aleman, Ashley Algarin, Holly Conner,Clark Crenshaw, Alexanderia Kiser, Katelyn Kring, Estevan Martinez,Nathan Miner, Trenton Monroe, Zachary Montague, Autumn Rohr, HavierRoller, Evan Semrau, Kalli Sternaman, Sydney Swope, Arianna Wilderand Austin Zeitler. Named in honor of two long-time boardmembers, the $2,000 Robert E. Treloar Scholarship and the $2,000Donna van Westrienen Scholarship were awarded to DanielChristensen and Michaela Niefert,respectively. And the $2,000 Robert S. Hunt Scholarship in honor ofECCU's retired president/CEO was presented to JustinPenny.

The $476 million Notre Dame Federal CreditUnion in Notre Dame, Ind. awarded eight scholarships toSarah Brechenser, Alexandria Harmacinski, Andrea E. Keszei,Benjamin D. Weaver, Adam Haydel, Erin M. Jabrocki, James P.Moley and Deirdre A. O'Leary. Eachstudent received $1,500 as well as a 2016 summer internship withinthe credit union department of their choice.

The $196 million Pioneer West Virginia Federal CreditUnion in Charleston awarded $1,000 college scholarships tofive student members: Megan Allen, Madison Messinger, DylanHatfield, Cassidy Taylor and CJOldham.

The $1.1 billion Achieva Credit Union inDunedin, Fla. awarded $15,000 in scholarships to twelve collegebound students. In addition to the cooperative's annual program ofgiving 10 $1,000 scholarships, the credit union also awarded two$2,500 Hugh “Max” Kriever Memorial Scholarships to student-athleteswho will be majoring in education in memory of the former boardchair for Achieva. The Achieva Credit Union scholarship recipientsincluded Benjamin Bergman, Rachel Curvelo, Alexis Deveaux,Rebecca Dirks, Jeffrey Hadley, Andrew Jensen, Daniel Miro-Chinea,Meghan Sircar, Marina Walter and SantiagoYori. The Hugh “Max” Kriever Memorial Scholarshiprecipients were Jordan Curry and KiraTouchton.

Nguyen,Kimberly M. Cross, Richard Wu, Joyanna A. Mazzone andAlly M. William. The scholarship program wasestablished in memory of John Garrison, a dedicated volunteer boardmember of more than 50 years.

The Partner Colorado Foundation awarded studentAlysha Benoit its first Seefried Award, a $5,000scholarship named after the foundation's founder and firstpresident, Sundie Seefried, president/CEO of the $286 millionPartner Colorado Credit Union. Established in 2005 by PartnerColorado CU, the public foundation recently awarded $34,000 incollege scholarships to 26 students. Since 2005, the foundation hasawarded 191 scholarships for a total of $231,000.

The $788 million Altura Credit Union inRiverside, Calif. awarded $41,000 in college scholarships to highschool seniors who graduated from Riverside County public andprivate high schools. The $1,000 scholarships were awarded by theAltura Scholarship Foundation, the educational foundation forAltura CU and three memorial scholarship funds.
