The big cake makes it official. Bert Hash Jr. has retired after 17 years as president/CEO of the $1.2 billion MECU of Baltimore. More than 600 people gathered for a June 13 reception in Hash's honor, including U.S. Rep. Elijah Cummings (D-Md.) and Baltimore Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake. Hash helped MECU grow to more than 110,000 members and 11 branches and also was a founding member of the African-American Credit Union Coalition. He also has served as a board member of his alma mater, Morgan State University. "This has been the most rewarding part of my career," Hash said, "working with the wonderful team at MECU to develop an exceptional financial institution to serve the people of the community I love."
