The $16.9 billionPentagon Federal Credit Union in Alexandria, Va.,said James Schenck will succeed Frank Pollack aspresident/CEO of the 1.3 million-member institution on April 1.

Pollack joined PenFed, now the nation's third-largest creditunion, in 1978 and became president/CEO in 2001. PenFed grew from$3.2 billion at the time to its current size while at the same timereducing its operating expense ratio by more than 47%, PenFedsaid.

“Pollack was known as a consistent champion of PenFed membersand American consumers. He coined PenFed's longstanding marketingslogan, 'If you can find a better deal, take it!' and transformedPenFed with his unwavering focus on creating operationalefficiencies to provide the absolute best price to its members,”the credit union said in its announcement Monday.

Schenck, a former Army aviation officer, West Point instructorand special assistant to the secretary of the Army, has been onPenFed's executive leadership team since 2001 and its EVP since2011.

The $1.6 billion United Federal Credit Union inSt. Joseph, Mich., hired Michael Vandall asmortgage loan underwriting manager. He has 15 years of experience,most recently as underwriting manager with First Ohio Home FinanceCompany of Columbus. UFCU also promoted Zach Bookto manager of its branch in Berrien Springs, Mich. He had beenmember service adviser and assistant branch manager at UFCU'sNiles, Mich., locations

The $252 million Partners 1st Federal CreditUnion in Fort Wayne, Ind., hired Joe Jentgen as its newvice president of marketing. He succeeds the retiring CindyEmmerich.

The $293 million Neighbors Credit Union in St.Louis said Bridgett Elliott has marked 35 years of employment. Shebegan as a teller in 1979 and now is managing her fourth branch,the Jennings location.

The $7.7 billion Security Service Federal CreditUnion in San Antonio promoted MichaelManley to assistant vice president of mortgage operations.He joined SSFCU in 1992 and previously was assistant vice presidentof mortgage services. SSFCU also hired AaronSluzevich as assistant vice president of mortgageoriginations. He has 13 years' experience in mortgage lending, mostrecently as mortgage originations supervisor at VyStar Credit Unionin Florida.

The $73 million USAgencies Credit Union inPortland, Ore., hired Grace Cooper to head up thelending department and Kasey Rockwell to managebusiness development efforts. Cooper has 10 years of credit unionand bank experience, including the past two years at NW PreferredCredit Union. Rockwell has more than 25 years of experience and isthe former director of outreach programs for the Northwest CreditUnion Association.
