A record number of lawmakers including House Speaker JohnBoehner (R-Ohio) are supporting the Credit Union Cherry Blossom TenMile Run on April 6.

There are currently 210 members of Congress representing 47states, American Samoa, D.C. and Guam serving as honorary race chairs for the event in Washington,breaking the previous record of 189.

“We are extremely pleased to see such a high level of supportfrom the Hill,” said Charlie Mallon, president/CEO of the $782million Congressional Federal Credit Union in Oakton, Va. and vicechair of the board of the race title sponsor, Credit Union MiracleDay. “This race showcases the credit union philosophy of peoplehelping people since one of our major goals is to raise funds forchildren's hospitals.”

Congressional FCU and U.S. Senate Federal Credit Union bothsponsor the annual Cherry Blossom Capitol Hill Competition as partof the Credit Union Cherry Blossom Ten Mile Run. In this race,teams comprised of staffers from House and Senate offices competefor the Capitol Hill Cup. The team with the best time displays thecup in its Capitol Hill office.

“Over 15,000 runners will be participating in what is known asthe 'Runner's Rite of Spring' – from world-class athletes to firsttime runners,” Mallon said. “We are especially proud of our CapitolHill Competition teams and runners. Nearly 900 congressional staffsare expected to participate in the race.”

Credit Union Miracle Day, which includes 101 participatingcredit unions and 48 business partners and CUSOs, contributed morethan $6 million to Children's Miracle Network Hospitals across thecountry through Credit Unions for Kids program.
