It's useless to complain about things you can't control, including the brutal winter weather crippling states throughout theSouth and Northeast, forcing many credit unions to close or delayopening of branches this week.

|

So instead of grumbling about the weather, a few credit unionsand their members are posting funny quips instead. Some are evenusing the “snow day” to ask members to support a good cause.

|

“Don't you wish your checking account filled up as fast as yourlaundry basket,” the $867 million SAFE Federal Credit Union in Sumter, S.C., posted on itsFacebook page Thursday.

That post received 46 likes.

“Due to some frozen money and icy roads, we will remain closeduntil 10 a.m. this morning,” reads a Tuesday Facebook post on the$628 million Listerhill Credit Union in Muscle Shoals, Ala.

Eight people liked that joke.

And while many credit unions apologized in advance to theirvalued members for the branch closings or delays on Facebook, itseemed that many members were taking it in stride or praised theircooperatives for looking out for the safety of their employees.

|

“Can't go and spend any money right now anyhow, so I am notworried about it,” wrote Harriet Rosengrant Barker, member of the$669 million AllSouth Federal Credit Union in Columbia, S.C. “Thank you forlooking out for your employees.”

The $602 million Palmetto Citizens Federal Credit Union inColumbia S.C., decided to take advantage of everyone's snow daydown time to encourage members to support a cause.

|

“Since you're off work/school today, take a second to help usraise money for Palmetto Health Children's Hospital and ask yourfriends to like our page,” the cooperative's Facebook post reads.“We'll donate $1 for each like we have by 3/1. Thanks for helpingus support this amazing cause!”
