The Westminster Historical Commission is undertaking therestoration of the Civil War Monument and its neighbor, the $500million IC Federal Credit Union, was the first to step forward witha $1,000 donation.

“The monument, erected in 1868, made of Fitchburg granite and 22½ feet tall, was originally funded by the town when theproject began in 1865,” said Bill Waight, project designee, “and weare very grateful to IC for stepping forward to help fund therestoration.”

The four sides of the monument's pedestal bear the inscriptionof the names, rank, place and date of death of the 34 patriots,sons of the town, who died in the Civil War. The monument itself ison town property, and is located in the front of the Church of theFirst Parish, directly across the street from another historicalWestminster icon, the Westminster Cracker Factory.
