The $599 million Justice Federal Credit Union in Chantilly, Va.,said it would offer its members from the Department of Justice andDepartment of Homeland Security interest-free and then low-interestunsecured loans if the federal government shuts down next week.

The 56,400-member credit union said it also would allow existingmembers with a Justice FCU consumer loan or Visa credit card torequest one payment deferral per loan. The personal loans could befor up to $10,000 and will convert to 4.9% for a term of 24 monthsafter 60 days.

Justice FCU also invited new members to join.

“Supporting the Justice community is a vital part of ourmission. We were there for our members during the last governmentfurlough and plan to be there for them again,” said Justice FCUPresident/CEO Peter Sainato.

Navy Federal earlier this week said it would cover directdeposits of active duty military members if the shutdown occursnext week.
