Organizers of the Occupy Money Financial Cooperative, the organization that someOccupy Wall Street activists say will offer affordable financialservices to low-income people, will formally begin raising moneynext week.

In an emailed message to supporters, the group said it willlaunch its fundraising efforts on Sept. 17, the second anniversaryof the first Occupy Wall Street protest, and said that details onthe debit cards the organization plans to offer will be added toits website in the days leading up to Sept. 17.

“Expect more information regarding the Occupy Card'sFee-Structures, a clear breakdown of the OMC's operating costs, theOMC's Privacy Policy, and the OMC's member by-laws” to bedisclosed, the organizers said.

The organization has contended that debit cards are the mosteasily launched and affordable means to offer financial services tolow-income and underbanked people and that starting a credit unionwould take too much time and effort for the group right now. Theysaid they have not ruled out starting one later, however.
