The NCUA recently wrapped up work with its largest group of interns yet in the four years it has operated its summer intern program.

To reach out to students from groups that traditionally have low participation rates in the workforce, the NCUA said, it works with the National Association for Equal Opportunity in Higher Education, Washington Internships for Native Students, the Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities, and the Conference on Asian Pacific American Leadership to recruit and place interns.

The agency said it hosted 24 college students from across the country this year. The program began in 2010 with four interns, the agency said, and two now are fulltime NCUA employees and a third works at a credit union.
