The Credit Union Association of New York launched its week-long“Don't Tax My Credit Union,” initiative Monday, which will includea rally on Thursday in Albany.

Throughout the week, credit unions across New York are beingencouraged to engage their staff and members in contacting U.S.Congress with the “Don't Tax My Credit Union” message. Theassociation has posted several resources on its website at https://www.cuany.org/DontTaxMyCU, from campaign linksto social media resources.

To build additional awareness about the importance of creditunion tax exemption, a rally will be held Thursday at 10:30 a.m. atCUANY headquarters.

Rally speakers will be CUANY President/CEO William Mellin; PaulaStopera, president/CEO of the $1 billion CAP COM FCU; Curt Cecala, president/CEO of the $156 million TCTFCU in Ballston Spa, N.Y.; Lucy Halstead, chief operatingofficer/SVP of the $272 million First New York FCU in Albany; andMichael Tobler, president/CEO of $13 million Albany Firemen'sFCU.

All credit union professionals, volunteer leaders and membersare invited to attend the event.

CUANY is also coordinating a statewide Don't Tax My Credit Unionpostcard campaign. Nearly 100 credit unions are collecting staffand member signatures on postcards over the next several days. Thepostcards will be hand-delivered to the offices of U.S. SenatorsCharles Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand, both New YorkDemocrats.
