The NCUA Board will be back atfull strength after former Oregon state senator Rick Metsger is sworn in on Aug.23.

The agency's general counsel, Michael McKenna, will administerthe oath of office to Metsger at 10 a.m. that Friday in a privateceremony on Capitol Hill, the NCUA said Wednesday.

David Shetler will be his interim senior policy advisor until apermanent candidate is selected, the agency said. Shetler is a26-year agency veteran and currently deputy director of the Officeof National Examinations and Supervision.

Metsger, a former credit union board member, was nominated by President Barack Obama in mid-May. He wasconfirmed by the Senate on Aug. 1, after a June 27 confirmationhearing before the Senate Banking Committee, and his term expiresAug. 2, 2017.

He succeeds Gigi Hyland, who left the board last fall and was recentlynamed executive director of the National Credit Union Foundation.She served 14 months after her term expired. Current Board MemberMichael Fryzel also is now serving past his termexpiration.
