During the past seven months, more than 1,000 stories aboutcredit unions helping communities have been posted on CU SocialGood.com, a websitelaunched by the Credit Union Association of the Dakotas ofBismarck, N.D., to share good news about credit unions across thecountry.

For example, the $391 million, 45,000-member ABNB Federal CreditUnion in Chesapeake, Va., recently posted a story announcing thatit will be donating $84,000 to the Children's Hospital of theKing's Daughters through the Children's Miracle Network withproceeds from its 10th Annual Fishing Fest.

Similar stories of donations, scholarships and other good deedsare daily fodder on the website, unveiled in January by CUAD.

To celebrate the site's 1,000th posting, CUAD recentlyannounced that it is giving away 25 customized T-shirts to creditunion employees that sign upto receive Spotlight – a weekly e-newsletter that highlightspostings on CU Social Good. Winners will be randomly selected fromall Spotlight subscribers and notified on Aug. 30, according to aCUAD press release.

“Credit unions give back to their local communities in anamazing variety of creative and generous ways, and credit unionemployees and members are well known for their volunteer work andcharitable fundraising events,” CUAD said in the release.

“The website can be used by all in our industry for legislativelobbying efforts, awareness campaigns and community relations, butabove all, to help generate a new public awareness that will helpus to remain successful in our mission for years to come,” theleague said.
