A fire has caused an estimated $40,000 in damage to the headquarters and main branch of the $280 million Fairfax County Federal Credit Union in Fairfax, Va.
Members, employees and contractors were safely evacuated when the fire alarm sounded shortly after 3 p.m. Thursday, authorities said.
The Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department determined the fire was set accidentally while a contractor was using an open-flame torch to repair a leak in the roof of the building. The fire also spread to the outer wall.
