The $779 million, 65,000-member Charter Oak Federal Credit Union of Groton, Conn., finalizedits merger with the $1.7 million, 600-member Quiet Corner CommunityCredit Union, Inc. on June 30 and opened a new full-service branchJuly 1 in Putnam, Conn.

Opening the branch is part of Charter Oak's continuing expansioninto the northern portions of Windham County.

“This new branch serves as a great launch-pad to grow ourbanking business throughout the 'Quiet Corner' area and gives usnew opportunities to increase our mortgage and commercial lendingthere, as well,” said Brian Orenstein, Charter Oak's CEO.

As a result of the merger, Charter Oak's new Putnam branch at 7Providence Pike (Route 44) has absorbed Quiet Corner's formeroperations in Putnam.

Audrey Lefevre, former manager and treasurer of Quiet CornerCommunity CU, is the new branch supervisor for the Charter Oak'snew Putnam branch. Sonya Armstrong, who serves as branch managerfor Charter Oak's Dayville and Killingly locations, was tapped asthe new Putnam branch manager.
