The Pennsylvania Credit Union Foundation has provided a $10,000grant to produce a new money management guide for people withdisabilities.

The 60-page online booklet, titled Cents andSensibility, was developed by the Pennsylvania AssistiveTechnology Foundation in King of Prussia, Pa. and the WidenerUniversity School of Business Administration in Chester, Pa.

“This segment of the population often gets overlooked, and thisbooklet will enable people with disabilities to have a betterunderstanding of smart ways to save money without jeopardizingtheir government benefits,” said Joe Wambach, executive director ofthe Pennsylvania Credit Union Foundation in Harrisburg, Pa.

Thebooklet features practical advice on personal budgeting,savings, borrowing, building credit and information about assistivetechnology devices and services that can help people withdisabilities manage and protect their finances.

“I am constantly having the same conversations with clients.They ask what credit is; they ask if they have to repay theirstudent loans and by when,” said Susan Tachau, PATF executivedirector.

The money management guide also includes exercises andactivities to help readers retain the information they've learned,according to the PCUF.

“We also often find that many are victims of identity theft oncewe look into their financial history,” Tachau said about some ofPATF's clients. “They don't know how to protect themselves.”
