The $808 million Credit Union ONE and the Consulate of Mexico inDetroit said they have signed an agreement to provide financialliteracy education to the Hispanic community centered in the MotorCity's southwest side.

Based in suburban Ferndale, the 106,000-member Credit Union ONEsaid it is one of the few credit unions that accept the Matricula Counsular de Mexico card for account opening and thatthe partnership formalizes an ongoing collaboration between thecredit union and the local Hispanic community.

“Mexican citizens who have strong family ties to the communityregularly move between the U.S. and Mexico to follow work,” saidGary Moody, president/CEO of Credit Union ONE.

“It is critical they understand how to establish accountrelationships to make deposits, save, budget, and in many casesmove funds to relatives in Mexico,” Moody said. “This is aboutproviding resources to this community so that they can makesafe, secure, and low cost financial choices that will best servetheir needs,”

Credit Union ONE said it now has 18 offices in Michigan – inmetro Detroit, Grand Rapids and Traverse City.
