The $6.2 billion San Diego County Credit Union said it is among the first financial institutions in the country to allow its members to use their smartphones to transfer balances from outside credit card accounts.

The 245,300-member SDCCU is offering the apps through iTunes or Google Play and they work similarly to the existing remote deposit check capture apps the credit union has been using from Mitek Systems Inc.

Called Easy Balance Transfer, the app is used to take a photo of the bottom payment stub of a credit card bill and then submit the captured company name, address and payment amount to be transferred to a Visa card account from SDCCU.
