The $3.5 billion Redstone FCU in Huntsville, Ala., said Thursdayit is collecting monetary donations for disaster relief efforts inOklahoma, following the destructive tornado of May 20.

“Establishing this account, and encouraging our members to givewhatever they are able to, during this difficult time for theresidents of Moore, Oklahoma, is just part of our socialresponsibility as a credit union,” said Redstone President/CEO JoeNewberry.

All proceeds will be donated directly to the American Red Crossof Central Oklahoma, the 360,000-member credit union said. Membersand non-members can contribute by making a deposit at any Redstonebranch. Redstone members may also make a donation by transferringany amount they choose to the donation account using onlinebanking. Instructions on how to transfer funds to the account areavailable at redfcu.org.

“The heart-wrenching loss that the people of Oklahoma areexperiencing right now resonates very deeply with members of ourcredit union, because many of them have seen tornado-devastatedcommunities first hand, or may even experienced the lossthemselves,” Newberry said.

“We have already seen a great response since opening thisaccount Tuesday afternoon, and are confident that members willcontinue to give generously, to help the residents of Moore,Oklahoma persevere though this trying time.”

Huntsville has seen its fair share of major tornados, withF4-strength tornados damaging the city in 1989 and 1995. The areaalso experienced tornados during the largest recorded tornadooutbreak in history April 25-28, 2011, which killed 324 people across six states.Redstone collectednearly $100,000 to aid victims of the 2011outbreak
