Staff at the $474 million IC Federal Credit Union in Fitchburg, Mass., had a particularly special cause in mind for their monthly Jeans for Charity effort on April 19. Nearly $400 was raised for Boston Marathon bombing victims. In the past three years, the staff has averaged $800 each time and raised nearly $30,000 for dozens of charities, including the Montachusett Interfaith Hospitality Network, Ginny’s Helping Hands, ARC of Opportunity, Animal Care in Education and Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library.
“Typically our donations are collected monthly, but this one-day donation, added at the last minute to help our friends in Boston, was very successful,” said Susan Coleman, IC's human resources manager.
Added the credit union’s board chairman, Ken Stone Jr., “To my knowledge, the program is unique to IC and I am very proud of our employees for their compassion and generosity to a community in need.”
