A branch of the $1 billion Harborstone Credit Union was damaged and four people sufferedminor injuries after a car crashed into the side wall next to thedrive-through teller window Monday, said police in Puyallup,Wash.

Police said a credit union employee was taken to a hospital fortreatment and later released. The driver of the car, a passengerand an infant were treated at the scene for their minorinjuries.

Because of privacy issues, Harborstone Credit UnionPresident/CEO Phil Jones would only say the employee is fine and isresting at home.

“We hope to have her back in the next couple of days in theoffice,” Jones said Tuuesday afternoon. “(The car crash) justcompletely destroyed our break room. To think that there could havebeen folks in there (had the crash occurred) during lunch time,it's really hard to think about. I was out there this morningtalking to the staff, and everybody is very upset. It could havebeen tragic.”

The accident is under investigation to determine whether theaccident was caused by a mechanical failure or the driver's error,said Puyallup Police Capt. Scott Engle.

“Thus far, the investigation has revealed that prior to thecollision the driver of the vehicle had been conducting atransaction at the drive up window,” according to a policestatement. “At some point during the transaction, the vehicleaccelerated and drove through the side of the building.”

The branch closed after the accident at about 1:45 p.m. Mondaythen re-opened Tuesday.
