The Federal Reserve Board on Wednesday announced that theredesigned $100 note, originally unveiled in 2010, will begincirculating on Oct. 8.

The bill's original introduction date was postponed because thepaper sporadically creased during printing, the Fed said.

The Fed said the note, which incorporates a blue, 3-D securityribbon, will be easier for the public to authenticate but moredifficult for counterfeitersto replicate.

New features to the bill's design include raised printing, acolor-shifting bell in the copper inkwell that changes colors fromcopper to green, a color-shifting numeral 100 on the front of thebill, a large gold numeral 100 on the back of the note, and smallprinted words that appear on Benjamin Franklin's jacket collar,around the blank space containing the portrait watermark, along thegolden quill and in the note borders.
