Joe Gervais has been named president/CEO of the $126 millionMidcoast Federal Credit Union in Bath, Maine.

Gervais has spent the past 13 years at the $211 million,22,900-member University CU in Orono, Maine, including the past seven asexecutive vice president.

At Midcoast FCU, Gervais succeeds Gail Richardson, who is retiring after 33 years of service andleadership to the Maine credit union committee, the 14,500-memberMidcoast said in its announcement.

“I have known Joe for many years and have always been impressedwith his knowledge and professionalism. I am confident that underJoe's leadership the credit union will continue to thrive,”Richardson said in the announcement.

“I am looking forward to beginning my stewardship of MidcoastFCU,” Gervais said. “The credit union has a rich history ofproviding highly personalized service to its members and I lookforward to building upon its past success and expanding the creditunion's support of the Midcoast community.”

Gervais is a 20-year credit union industry veteran and BostonCollege grad who also has served for the past several years aspresident of Primary Mortgage Corp., a credit union subsidiaryproviding secondary market mortgage services to other Maine creditunions.

He is an active member of Maine Credit Union League GovernmentalAffairs Committee and regularly testifies before the statelegislature. He also is the current treasurer of the PortlandIndependent Business and Community Alliance (Portland BuyLocal).
