Three Kitsap-area credit unions in Washington state are holding“Surviving Sequestration: A Community Town Hall” on Tuesday, March26, at the Kitsap County Fairgrounds in Bremerton, Wash.

They are the $25 million, 2,800-member Connection CU ofSilverdale, Wash.; $963 million, 93,400-member Kitsap CU ofBremerton, Wash.; and the $150 million, 17,500-member PeninsulaCommunity FCU of Shelton, Wash.

The Tuesday evening event is open to the public and will featurea resource fair and speakers on the decisions that need to be made,and resources available to help make those decisions, by householdsthat could lose 20% of their income due to federal budget cuts.

“These are questions that roughly 16,000 local Department ofDefense civilian employees, contractors, their families, and othermembers of the community could be facing this year as leaderswrestle with how to meet mandated budget cuts due to sequestration,” the credit unions said in theirannouncement.

Times of financial change create new financial, physical, andemotional needs, the organizers said. “(We) want to work withmembers and the community to be proactive in thinking through their household financialscenario as it may be impacted by this particular situation.”
