The $196 million, 24,000-member Cabrillo Credit Union in SanDiego said more than 1,700 members have signed up to use its newmobile app in the first month it was offered.

That activity included processing more than a thousand checkdeposits via the Android and iPhone apps, Cabrillo CU. Otherfunctionality includes bill pay, monthly statements and transfersto other financial institutions.

“We want to give our members the ability to do everything ontheir mobile devices and this is the first big step in thatdirection,” said Robin Lentz, Cabrillo CU's president/CEO.

The mobile technology comes from mShift of Fremont, Calif., the credit union said. CabrilloCU also was one of the first credit unions to deploy the new KeyStone core processingplatform from local startup Corelation Inc.

Cabrillo CU was founded in 1955 and primarily serves U.S. BorderPatrol and other federal employees in the San Diego area, as wellas Sharp HealthCare and Carlsbad city employees. Membership is opento anyone who lives or works in San Diego County.
