The $5.3 billion, 416,500-member Randolph-Brooks Federal CreditUnion has donated $150,000 to Alamo Colleges to create an endowedscholarship in honor of recently retired RBFCU CEO Randy Smith.

The first of the scholarships the funds will provide will bepresented in the fall semester, the Texas school said after thepresentation was made during a recent meeting of its board oftrustees, RBFCU said.

Smith retired at the end of the year and now serves as a senioradviser to the Live Oak, Texas, credit union's board ofdirectors.

The Alamo Colleges Foundation said the gift to the school helpscreate one of its largest endowed scholarships.

“Establishing an endowed scholarship in Randy Smith's name is afitting tribute to a man who has dedicated his entirecareer to helping others,” said Dr. Harry M. Edwards, chairmanof the RBFCU board of directors.

“He has supported many educational endeavors over the years andis the personification of the core credit union philosophy of'People Helping People.' By providing this scholarship in hisname, our credit union will be ableto help young people achieve their educational goalswhile honoring Mr. Smith's legacy,” Edwards said.

Michael D. Beldon, chairman of the Alamo Colleges Foundation,said, “As a committee chair and valued member of our foundationboard, Randy's leadership has played in a key role in the progresswe've been able to achieve in recent years.”

Smith served as president and CEO at RBFCU from 1987 throughthis past Dec. 31. He also was a 27-year Air Force veteran whohas served on a number of state and national credit union boardsand in community service positions that, along with the AlamoColleges board, includes the United Way, Chamber of Commerce and asa military liaison.
