Branching 2-20-13 (2)
Astera Credit Union, Lansing, Mich., opened its newest branch located on West Saginaw Highway in Lansing. The new branch represents a significant transformation of the member experience and market positioning for Astera. The branch was designed to enhance the member’s experience and to raise awareness of Astera’s full product offering. The exterior was designed to take advantage of our high visibility location and draw potential members, even when the lobby is closed. The Saginaw Hwy. location replaces Astera’s oldest branch located at the corner of Waverly and Michigan Avenues. It also allows Astera to expand its hours and services to include a three-lane drive-up, 24 hour ATM and Saturday hours. The new branch has moved from a traditional teller line to a concierge model. Now, the person helping members with basic transactions is the same person that can help them apply for a loan or credit card.
Centra Credit Union, Columbus, Ind., recently purchased west side property to house administrative and support staff, having outgrown its current facilities.
The credit union has assets of $1.1 billion and employs 285 people throughout central and southern Indiana. Since 2006, Centra has expanded its workforce by more than 18%. Five new positions are also planned for 2013. The new building, with 18,000 square feet of space, will house about 60 employees, will serve as the company’s administrative headquarters, training and community education site, and will house other support positions as well.
Community Powered Federal Credit Union, Bear, Del., announced the official opening of its new office and headquarters building on Route 40 in Bear. The new location was first proposed in 2010 to conveniently serve the entire New Castle County community when membership in the credit union was opened to anyone who lives, works, worships or goes to school in New Castle County. The building, a 10,000-square-foot state-of-the-art facility, was designed to accommodate the growing needs of the credit union, which has steadily expanded since its beginnings in 1962 to reach its current membership of 9,000. The building’s design by the firm of Crabtree, Rohrbaugh Associates takes advantage of natural site elements that will help to lower energy consumption and create a user-friendly facility.
Michigan State University Federal Credit Union, East Lansing, Mich., opened its new Sparrow branch, located within the Sparrow Professional Building in Lansing. The branch offers a full suite of financial services including ATM access, teller services, loans, mortgages, and checking and savings accounts. In September 2012, MSUFCU and six other financial institutions submitted proposals at the request of Sparrow Health System to be considered as the financial services provider within the Sparrow Professional Building. A committee of Sparrow’s management, union representatives and Caregiver representatives selected MSUFCU and offered the credit union the opportunity to open a branch at the Sparrow Professional Building.
