More than 19 million employed Americans are expected to look fornew jobs in 2013, according to a new survey by CornerstoneOnDemand, a Los Angeles-based provider of talent managementsoftware solutions.

Another survey conducted by CareerBuilder found that 32% ofemployers lost their top performers to other organizations lastyear, and 39% of employers say they are worried this will happenagain in 2013.

This employee turnover can be costly for companies. The averagecost to recruit and train one employee is estimated at 2.5 times anemployee's salary, according to Cornerstone OnDemand.

Aside from compensation and benefits, the Cornerstone surveyfound that the following would motivate employees to stay in theircurrent position:

  • A good manager that employees enjoy working for……….……48%
  • Feeling appreciated by supervisor or employer…………………46%
  • Career advancement opportunities………………………………39%
  • A promotion or new title…………………………………………38%
  • Liking and respecting co-workers………………………………..36%
  • Recognition for accomplishments from supervisor………………35%
  • Opportunity to learn and develop new skills………………………32%
  • Receiving regular feedback that supportssuccess…………………..26%

Nearly 500 nationally representative employed Americansage 18 and older took the email and online survey, the companysaid. The survey's margin of error is plus or minus 4.4% at a95% level of confidence, Cornerstone OnDemand reported.
