The voices of experience were heard at a recent gathering of theCredit Union League of Connecticut's young professionals program.The relative newcomers to the industry met at a restaurant inHamden and heard from three CEOs on how they got where they are,and how the young professionals can do the same.

American Eagle FCU President/CEO William J. Dokas advised thegroup that if you keep your head down and work hard, people willnotice.”

Seasons FCU President/CEO Keith Wiemert told the audience to“follow what you have a passion for.” He recounted how anNCUA examiner was there on Wiemert's first day on the job, and thatwhile it was trying at first to address the findings from the NCUAbut he was able to work through those items and loves what he doesand enjoys coming to work every day.

Joanne Todd, president/CEO of Northeast Family FCU, started inthe credit union industry in high school before moving up theranks. She said at a small credit union, “you did everything”from servicing members to clearing out the bats from theoffice.” Todd said she was grateful that she had a lot ofgood mentors and added, “Nobody's lucky without working forit.”

The CT League's young professionals group is composed of peopleage 40. Wiemert said those in attendance are going to redefinecredit unions for the next generation. “It's your opportunity,” hesaid.
