Virginia League to Move Staff to Capital

Long-Planned Move of Key Personnel from Lynchburg Now Taking Place

In support of its governmental affairs and regulatory work, the Virginia Credit Union League is relocating key members of its staff to a newly purchased office building just two blocks from Capitol Square in downtown Richmond.

For more than 75 years, the league has worked with lawmakers and regulators to promote and protect the interests of Virginia's credit union system.

Officially headquartered in Lynchburg, about 115 miles from Richmond, the league has discussed moving some or all of its operations to Richmond a number of times during the past two decades.

The organization has rented office space in Richmond to facilitate its lobbying and regulatory work, but it has never had a permanent presence in Richmond or permanently assigned more than one or two staff members to the Richmond area.

“The league board carefully considered all facets of this decision,” said Virginia Credit Union League President Rick Pillow, “but ultimately, our mission is to serve the commonwealth's credit union system, and this relocation is a necessary step in advancing our advocacy work."

By January 2014, five of the League's 24 staff members, including  Rick Pillow and three of the league's five management team members, will be permanently assigned to the Richmond office. No positions will be cut, and league staff now working at the Lynchburg office will continue to be headquartered there. There are no plans, at present, to relocate additional staff after January 2014.

The league purchased the Richmond office building through reserved funds. It also owns its Lynchburg office outright.
