The $135 million, 12,600-member Tucson Old Pueblo Credit Unionhas selected G. Vernon Babilon as its new president/CEO.

Babilon, most recently owner of a Texas-based recruiting firm,succeeds Joseph Mirachi, who has taken the top job at the $619 millionKennedy Space Center FCU in Coco Beach, Fla.

Babilon, who begins his new job in Arizona next week, also spent16 years as CEO of Bellco FCU in Wyomissing, Pa., and five years asEVP/CFO at People's Trust FCU in Houston, his new employersaid.

“Throughout our search, Vern far exceeded the board'sexpectations and quickly rose to the top during a very competitivehiring process. His skills are many and he certainly has theexperience and qualifications to lead TOPCU into the future,” saidRichard Prater, board chair at Tucson Old Pueblo.

“With over 22 years of credit union experience, including astint as the industry's youngest CEO in 1989, Vern possesses uniqueskills in lending, collections, marketing, and operations,” Pratersaid in a statement.

Babilon has a bachelor's degree in banking/finance andaccounting from Alvernia College in Reading, Pa., and an MBA fromPenn State University. He also is a CPA and CCUE, Tucson OldPueblo said.
